Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. What are the best destinations for all-inclusive resorts?
The three islands we recommend for all-inclusive resorts are Mexico, Jamaica & Dominican Republic. You can find some all-inclusive resorts on other islands such as St. Lucia and Bahamas, but the number of resorts to select from is a lot smaller than the three main islands.
  2. Do I need a passport? How long does it take to get a passport?
If you are a U.S. Citizen, you don’t need a passport for travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska, or anywhere within the United States. Any other destinations, you will need a passport. It generally takes about 3 months to complete all the steps and receive your passport. You can expedite the process, which costs additional, but you can have your passport in roughly 4 weeks.
  3. How soon can we book our honeymoon?
We can book your affordable honeymoon destination approximately 10 months prior to travel. This is the earliest that airline schedules and airfare come out.
  4. What’s the advantage of booking with Honeymoon Compete?
At Honeymoon Compete, we can guarantee you the lowest price with our price challenge tool. 5. When is the best time to travel to Mexico and the Caribbean?
The peak time to travel is November through April. This is the dryer season and milder temperature times in those areas. May begins the rainy season and follows into hurricane season through September and October. Rates will be higher in the months of November through April and weather is best. Traveling May through September or October is when rates come down a little and you would have to take a chance on the weather. We typically do not have any issues with weather though.
  6. Is it safe to leave the resort?
This is a case by case question that varies with the destination. We feel that you are safe to leave your resort and explore in many areas of Mexico as long as you are aware of your surroundings. In Jamaica and Dominican Republic, we don’t feel quite as strongly about safety outside of the resorts. Any resort we would send you to, you would have the ability to book off-site excursions through the hotel concierge. There are ways to see the island, but we would recommend specific ways of doing so.
  7. Should I book excursions prior to travel?
Yes, we have a unique site just for you to be able to book your excursions prior to traveling. This also allows you to pay for the excursions up front, so you don’t have to take a lot of cash with you or worry about bank fees associated with a purchase. Remember not to over book yourself, you want to be able to relax as well!
  8. When do I get airline tickets or boarding passes?
Airline tickets are all electronic now. You can log on to the specific airline provider’s website and check in for your flight up to 24 hours prior to travel and print your boarding passes there. We recommend checking the status of your flight approximately 24 hours before travel, but waiting until you get to the airport to print your boarding passes as you are checking your luggage. You will need to arrive to the airport a minimum of 2 hours early for all international flights to ensure plenty of time to get through security and checked in at the gate.
  9. What are the rules and regulations for checked luggage?
All your liquids over 3.4 ounces, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, hair gel, sunscreen, etc. need to be packed in your checked luggage. Your checked luggage typically cannot weigh over 50 pounds and the first piece of checked luggage per passenger is usually charged at $25 each way.
  10. What are the TSA guidelines?
For a detailed list of TSA guidelines and restrictions, we recommend checking online at www.tsa.gov. The important rule to remember is the 3-1-1 rule. Liquids must not contain over 3.4 ounces per bottle, liquids must be contained in a 1-quart clear bag, and only 1 quart sized bag is permitted per traveler for checked luggage.
  11. Will I be able to use my cell phone?
Some resorts do have an app you can download prior to travel that will allow you to make calls to the U.S. free of charge. However, this is not the case for the majority of the resorts. Each cell phone carrier has different international plans and we recommend you contact your personal carrier to determine the best option for you.
  12. When do we receive an itinerary or travel documents?
Travel documents will be mailed out to you approximately 2 weeks prior to your departure date. These documents are for your personal use. The documents will show your airline information, departure and arrival information, airport transfer information, hotel and room information and more.
  13. If something happens while at the resort, what should I do?
We ask that you try to contact us while you are at the resort and allow us to reach out to our contacts at the resort to try to resolve any issues. Also, speak with managers at the resort to determine what needs to be done. It is better to resolve an issue at the resort than to try to resolve it once you have returned home.
